Director of Development, Five-Star Patriots Circle

The National WWII Museum is currently recruiting for a Director of Development, Five-Star Patriots Circle. Reporting to the Director of Patriots Circle (PC), the Director of Development, Five-Star Patriots Circle plays a key role in ensuring continued growth of annual giving revenue and Membership of The National WWII Museum’s Patriots Circle program. A significant component of Institutional Advancement (IA) revenue goals, the Patriots Circle serves as the Museum’s mid-level giving program securing almost $7 million annually in unrestricted operating funds from more than 2,000 Members. The program has grown significantly over the past three years as a progression to the Museum’s renowned 140k Member Charter Program in the donor lifecycle. Leading the newly developed premiere Five-Star society, this position is responsible for securing major unrestricted gifts of $25k or more.

This position manages and oversees the National WWII Museum’s Five-Star Patriots Circle program. Working collaboratively with the Associate Vice President for Annual Giving and Membership, Directors of Charter Membership, Brick and Tribute Program and Directors of Development, this position will foster a successful elite membership program resulting in philanthropic growth for the Museum.

• Implement the Five-Star Patriots Circle Annual Giving Plan, which outlines strategies for identification, cultivation, and solicitation at a leadership level of at least $25k annually.  
• Identify, cultivate, and solicit leadership and Five-Star gift prospects; recommend and implement cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and engagement strategies for prospects. Meet with prospects both in-person and virtually.
• Develop marketing and outreach strategies, specifically through regional affinity groups, targeted upgrading of existing PC members, and collaboration with Directors of Development who are charged with securing PC members in their portfolios. 
• Work with the Director of PC, IA leadership and Museum Marketing and Communications to develop appropriate printed and digital materials for the Five-Star PC Society. 
• Assist in the development of annual Five-Star Membership goals and secure approved goals.
• Coordinate special engagement opportunities for Five-Star Members including townhall meetings with the CEO and other leadership, recognition and VIP arrangements during signature Museum annual events, International Conference, special behind the scenes access to collections, cultural excursions, etc.
• Partner with the Museums Travel Department to secure special premium travel opportunities for Five-Star members. 
• Manage a portfolio of Five-Star Members. Provide updates in Raiser’s Edge (Museum’s CRM system).
• Develop and implement solicitation plans for each prospect and stewardship strategies.
• Fulfill and enhance stewardship action tracks for Five-Star donors ensuring regular and systematic contact with prospects through all means of communication.
• Collaborate with the Director of Patriots Circle and Associate Vice President of Annual Giving and Membership to create and engage regional affinity groups throughout the nation with the goal of attracting Five-Star Patriots Circle Members.
• Identify existing Members with the capacity to become Five-Star Members and implement conversion strategies. 
• Work with the Director of Patriots Circle to develop a plan for routine visits with Five-Star Members, engaging the Associate Vice President for Annual Giving and Membership when necessary. 
• Serve as the principal liaison for Five-Star Patriots Circle Members with the Museum, developing and maintaining a collaborative work environment with Museum departments to create a seamless donor journey and engagement experience for donors and prospects
• Undertake other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Patriots Circle and Associate Vice President of Annual Giving and Membership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree and CFRE certification are a plus.
• 10+ years of direct fundraising experience -- with a clear understanding of annual, major, capital and deferred gifts.
• Has a demonstrable track record in securing leadership level annual gifts.
• Experience in an annual giving program generating revenues in excess of $2 Million annually.
• Experience in cultivating, securing and stewarding donors on a national scope. 
• Experience in the fields of higher education, healthcare or large arts/cultural organizations; demonstrable interest in life-long learning.
• Mastery of the skills, principles, practices, and techniques associated with implementing a successful annual giving program.
• Highly developed interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
• Proactive strategic thinker with strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently and as a team member.
• Flexible, adaptable, and proactive team player with an ability to navigate sophisticated donor relationships.
• Ability to navigate work responsibilities in building donor relationships that requires regular travel, evening and weekend meetings and time commitments.
• Willingness to regularly work a flexible schedule, including extensive travel throughout the United States. 

The salary range starts at $80K and is negotiable based on experience.
